Nerd Lizzie Vs. Hipster Lizzie in her new Sweater from Kenzie & Co.
Lizzie really liked the look of Kenzie Craven’s of Kenzie & Co new releases over the weekend – the Tight Turtleneck Sweater Dress and Plain Socks (which aren’t so plain mind you) . So with notice in hand, Lizzie popped over to her Tableau locale and snatched up a dress and pair of socks and set out to nerdify this smexy, smexy dress. But Lizzie then had a brilliant idea (*ding* – light bulb appears above her head), why not create two looks – our beloved nerd Lizzie and the Starlust roamin’, The Velvet goin’, Indie lovin’ HIPSTER LIZZIE Yay. And honestly it took only a few tweeks in accessories and hair to create this two different looks cause you know many Hipsters are nerds incognito or just afraid of their inner nerd creeping out, LOL. Anyway so let’s take a look at Lizzie’s look for today shall we?
Oh my Xstreet Part II
Krissy Muggleston a commenter on SCD and a friend mine states in her comment that Pink Linden may have come from eBay. So I did a bit of simple googling and this is what I found about listing on eBay:
When you list an item on eBay, you’re charged an insertion fee. If the item sells, you are also charged a final value fee. The total cost of selling an item is the insertion fee plus the final value fee.The basic fee structure depends on the type of listing you use.
All fees are in U.S. Dollars.
From Fees for selling on Ebay. Doesn’t sound like LL is coming up with such a novel idea. LOL. And from my pending comment over at Tenshi’s pretty house that I visit often, LOL:
I wouldn’t be surprised for a long time that SL didn’t have an Xstreet or Onrez on their internal product road map. But a la EMC they saw another entity doing what they wanted to do anyway and bought them out. It happens all the time: Compaq did it in buying out Tandem back in the day, HP eventually bought out Compaq and EDS. Dell bought Alienware and now is in the process of buying Perot Systems. And the partnerships that exist also – Intel is partnering with my RL employer instead of trying to develop their own Theft Recovery Software. Why not just buy or partner something that works that you planned to implement anyway? It may be cheaper in the long run to do that.
And yes I am sad to see that the days of small town SL may be waning – I am with everyone in that regard. But this is the way The Lab wants to go it seems so we all must decide “Should I stay or should I go”, cause in the end that’s all you can really control. Okay end of corporate cheerleader moment. Have a great weekend!
And Oh btw, I love The Clash and I am looking forward to the day when I walk through Heaven’s Door and I am greeted by Joe Strummer, John Lennon, Janis Joplin and of course Marvin Gaye. What a day that will be YAY! Keep on rockin’ Joe wherever you are!
Lizzie likes Tallulah from Truth
Just keeping it simple. I like this hair, it’s a super cute messy side bun and its screams Lizzie, LOL ….. SO GO BUY IT!
- Hair: >TRUTH< Tallulah – almond
Oh My Xstreet
Okay so it’s all the buzz on the grid and the blogosphere: Xstreet is raising fees blah, blah. What’s gonna happen next, blah, blah. The Lab is getting greedy, blah, blah. And yes it is very possible that the Lab is getting greedy and wants a piece of the pie, but is it really as simple as that? Or is The Lab getting to the point where they are having to assess their financial situation and whether they can make it for the long haul. I am personally leaning towards the latter. This is the thing, the SL economy reminds me a lot of my experiences working at THE BIG COMPUTER COMPANY in Round Rock TX for many years. And let me tell we had a blast for a while, LOL. The money was rolling in left and right – reps merely had to pick up the phone, make a sale to a home user or a small business user and they were on their way to 100K a year. It was that simple and easy. We had some foreshadowing that change was in the wind during the layoffs of 2001 but then summer 2005 hit and the party was over.
So there we were – sales reps used to making a good amount of cash seeing our income being slashed in half. Friends who had been with the company for 10+ years were being let go for performance reasons. Gloom and doom surrounded us. At that point I had to make a choice: Did I love the company enough to stay and wade through the tide in hopes of a better future with the company or did they make me so stabbity that it just wasn’t worth it for me to stay with all the pressure and stress that may not go away. In the end I left – I didn’t love Michael enough to make through the rough times. So I made it “over the wall” and never went back.
Yes I am not a content creator but I have over 13 years experience working for corporate entities who specialize in technology goods and services. I have seen the trends, I have seen the highs and the lows. And the thing is companies have to make painful choices to survive. So I say this to my beloved content creators – do you love second life enough to adjust to the changes in the winds. Do you believe in your efforts and the needs of The Lab enough to continue down the road to success in a virtual world. Because in many ways The Lab is your employer - so do you love them enough to stick it out?
This is my two cents and my opinion. Thanks for reading.

RL in SL – Vitabela Dubrovna of Boudoir
Ladies and Gentleman, Boys and Girls – whilst lurking about my blogroll yesterday, I came across an intriguing post by Ms. Arabella Steadham about the new to me store in SL called Boudoir. What stands out about Boudoir in SL for me is that the store appears to be the virtual pet project of a real life fashion designer living and working in Croatia. And not only did Arabella model many lovely gowns by Vitabela but she also linked a video made by SL’s beloved Eshi Otawara filmed at Vitabela’s RL boutique in Croatia, YAY. The designs of the RL shop are truly one of a kind couture creations by Vitabela and her twin sister and they are simply to die for! And here is Eshi’s video for your viewing pleasure:
I fell so in love with the designs of the RL boutique also called Boudoir that I popped on over to Boudoir SL and bought a few of her dresses, YAY. I also had a chance to chat with Vitabela and she gave me a few details about her designs and her experiences in SL as a designer. Currently, all of her designs in SL are photosourced images of her actual RL creations. She is also a self taught photoshop user and is still making her way around the tools and options of SL design. Now I was tired last night, LOL and I didn’t do piccys but I have three dresses I intend to blog over the next week or so and one of these absolutely screams Bunneh Lizzie, YAY. So in the meantime, check out Arabella’s post and be sure visit Boudoir in SL as well, YAY. And oh if you want to know what dress was RL Lizzie’s fave from the dresses shown in the video – it’s shown at the very end of the video up close and is on the left side of the mirror. It features a sparkly bodice and a fuzzy skirt and according to Vitabela it has already been sold *sigh*. Okay thats it for now kids. Hugs!
Fall can be Hilarious!
Ahhh, Fall such a lovely time of year. Now the real life Lizzie would love to have a fall filled with colors such as orange and red, but alas she lives in Austin and its pretty much green all year haha. To compensate for the lack of fall foliage in her real life she decided to take a stroll on the lovely Tempura Island with all its fall glory in full effect, YAY. So she donned her new coat from Hilarious and her comfy shoes form Zero Number and went off on a lovely stroll, YAY!
Let Us Not Forget Cambodia….
As we all know Sunday is SCD Secret Day, YAY. And if you are drama monger like me, you can’t wait to see what deliciousness is posted for the week, LOL. But this post is not really about a secret or about SCD but it was triggered by an image submitted then taken down by Tenshi due to the nature of the image and how the text of the secret was completely irrelevant to the photo. In a nutshell the image appears to have been taken from one of the many, many photographs of the victims of the Pol Pot regime from 1975-1979 in Cambodia, known at that time as Kampuchea. During that time frame its estimated that 1.7 million people (21% of the population) lost their lives at the hand of this regime. Fueled by the Vietnam War and Pol Pot’s disdain of Vietnam’s emerging communist government, the Khmer Rouge under Pot created a communist system that promoted such a skewed ideology that resulted in the Cambodian people being held captive and being subjected to starvation and torture that is now considered one of the worst human tragedies of the last 100 years. I suggest everyone should watch The Killing Fields, the academy award-winning movie about an American Journalist and a Cambodian Journalist he worked with who failed to escape before the fall of Phnom Penh, the capital city at that time. Here is a clip from the film via youtube:
I am sure you are now you are wondering why I care or maybe know so much about the topic. Well as a child from approximately 1974-1977, my mother worked directly with refugees from both Vietnam and Cambodia and on many occasions the parents and children were welcomed into our home for parties and play time. My mother primarily taught the mothers English and American life skills. And when the children would come to my house to play or to swim or to socialize I would play with them as well. And even though we didn’t speak the same language we still learned to interact with each other, playing games, house or even Marco Polo in the pool. It was a lovely experience for me. So to honor my mother’s memory and all the wonderful things she did, I am posting this now. And please let us not forget Cambodia.
Let’s Talk About Theft, Software Theft That Is…..

I first wrote about this topic for Achariya’s In Support of Designers Posts in response to the November 5th boycotts. Let me begin though by saying this: I have worked in the field of hardware/software sales for 10 years and software piracy was often discussed. And I have to admit a dirty secret – I held an illegal copy of photoshop on my computer at one point in time early on in my second life, EEK. A friend of mine held a copy on his personal server and gave it to me. But every time I opened up the software and it asked me to register my product I felt DIRTY. Seriously I did, like I was breaking some huge law or that someone would find out or that I was committing some mortal sin – PLEASE STEVE JOBS AND MICHAEL DELL FORGIVE ME -FOR I HAVE SINNED! And then the copy was lost in a computer upgrade, thank goodness.
At that point my quest for a legal copy of photoshop began but I was poor and couldn’t afford the 500.00 or so for photoshop and I was sad and lost without it LOL. Oddly enough I was chatting to a second life designer about losing my illegal copy of photoshop and how I didn’t want to go the illegal route again. Her response to this was kind of odd. Basically she said “I think you are one of the few people in second life I have talked to who actually doesn’t want to get a bit torrent copy.” (Let me stipulate here she was a student and had all sorts of legal student versions of photoshop etc in her posession, she was not a SINNER like Lizzie). “Wow” I thought to myself, “I am not the only sinner.” And within a few days I found THE GIMP and with my conscious clear, I returned to my beloved second life photography! And perhaps now my confession and my software repentance will lead some other second life resident down the path to software righteousness, YAY!
I think it’s important to bring up this issue because I feel as though at times software piracy is brushed by the wayside. At times when I bring up the subject I get the response “well that doesn’t affect SL or The Lab can’t do anything about it.” And this may be true but does it really not affect us in second life? I think it reflects a person’s value system in regards to the works of others and it’s often justified by such statements as “well Adobe is a corporate entity, who am I harming.” But someone created this software and yes, it’s not a mom and pop shop anymore but it’s still theft. So readers, content creators and whoever else might be looking at this blog at this moment, if you have a bit torrented copy of Photoshop or Maya or even Final Cut on your computer right now please consider deleting it. Then say 12 Hail Steve’s as your penance and download The Gimp or other freely distributed software products for graphics and design such as Blender or Wings 3D. YAY, Okay I shut up now.
