The Virtual Adventures of Lizzie

A Nerderiffic Girl in a Virtual World

Drama on the 4th LOL

Yay for DJs!

Yay for DJs!

Some people in second life are just amazing.  Why do people in their mid 30s act like they are in junior high?  Last night, Lizzie was a witness to one of the worst occurrences of out and out and in public verbal harassment of a resident.  Lizzie was at a electronic club dancing and was completely thrilled that one of her first SL friends, Yuzienborn Janus, made a rare appearance to DJ at a fairly newish electronic club here in SL.  In Lizzie’s humble opinion, Yuz is the master electronic breakbeats in SL, yay!  But thats just a side note LOL.  Anyway Yuz graciously TP’d Lizzie to the event.  The manager of the club is a lady Lizzie has known and liked for over a year now.  She is a feisty beautiful woman and her partner is equally feisty.    A group of people, that will be referred to as “the entourage in this post,  showed up soon after the manager sent the notices to the various electronic groups in SL regarding the event.  This group of people included a female resident (oh haii Ms. L) that Lizzie honestly doesn’t care for, ha.

Lizzie was having fun chatting in IM and in public chat when she noticed that all of sudden “the entourage” was calling the manager a whore, slut and making crass references about vaginas.  Lizzie saw the manager throw right back at them so she thought, hmm they must be playing.  Eventually the entourage left after one member made fun of an attendee who had chosen the name “Pussy” as her avater name.  Basically it was like this:

Dumb Resident:  Why would anyone name themselves Pussy

Lizzie:  Because they can? LOL

Jeez give this woman a invite to Mensa – she’s brilliant!  (Please note extreme sarcasm here).

Yay for Dancing

Yay for Dancing

Poof the group was gone.  The crowd goes back to fun chatter about Twitter, SL skins, music etc.  It was a fun time to be had for all.  And the music was unbelievable.  Lizzie even turned down a couple of invites to a fashion party to celebrate the opening of the Naive store because of the vibe of the crowd and the DJ.   But at some point the “entourage” came back and immediately started in again on the manager calling her a whore, slut etc.  Lizzie started to think “wow these people are for real”.  So she asked the entourage are you people joking?   One member responded by basically saying Lizzie are you a dumb ass, we are not joking.  What was Lizzie’s response?  LOL “I think so and so needs a glass of shut up.”  After that it escalated.

Other attendees also started to pipe up regarding the entourage’s behavior basically letting them know they were not welcome by most people there.  But the entourage continued on and eventually Ms. L made some comment about Lizzie walking her dogs, like it was an odd thing to do.  So after a couple of crass comments from Ms. L, Lizzie hit the big ole’ mute button.  By this time, the manager’s partner, exquisitely attired in a gold skin with various writings on it, gold cat ears and gold chucks (this is supposed to be a fashion blog for god sakes) and I believe owner of the club said to the group “Please keep your fights to private IMs and do not disrespect my wife in this manner.”  Lizzie at that point apologized to the manager and her lovely partner for adding to the chaos and soon after the entourage was gone.

STOP HARASSING ME LOL

STOP HARASSING ME LOL

So I am sure you are now thinking “Lizzie what is your point” LOL.   Well my point is this:  Conflict will happen in SL.  People may not get along.  But before you decide to publicly humiliate someone at an event like the “entourage”attempted to do to the manager, think about the other attendees.  Do they really need to witness this?  Is it possible you may make it uncomfortable for them to witness this?  Are you disrespecting the DJ or the performer by your actions?  Its obvious the entourage showed up with the sole intent of harassing the manager:  They have no connection to the club or the DJ and she is the one who sent out the notices so obviously the entourage would know she would be there.  And since the trash talk started soon after their arrival, their intentions were pretty clear.  And for fuck’s sake “entourage”, it was her club – what the hell were you thinking?

Lizzie also understands the manager and her partner’s stance that they will not ban people from their club.  They want everyone to feel welcome and assume everyone will act like an adult.  But personally Lizzie thinks this:  If this group continues to come back with the sole intent of harassing the manager, they deserve to be banned.
